Then, she tried to weed out any sarcastic ones, and others that criticized park management or administration. She looked for reviews that predated the project once it took off, people began to plant fake reviews to get her attention. The Raleigh, North Carolina-based designer had some strict criteria when it came to determining which reviews to use in her illustrations. A nature lover who enjoys hiking, kayaking and backpacking, Share has been to about a third of the sites. Share also includes a handful of national monuments, recreation areas, preserves, lakeshores and seashores, bumping the full list of sites in its pages up to 77. From Acadia to the Grand Canyon, and Denali to the Virgin Islands, all 63 are featured in the book. Out of all the National Park Service’s 423 national park sites, only 63 of them have the “National Park” designation tacked onto their name. With more than 350,000 followers, the account has been called " an immediate hit," taking " creativity to a whole new level" and providing " comic relief in strange times." Soon enough, literary agents were sliding into Share's DMs to get her to create a book with them. Once she put up a few more and shared the account, the project took off. The first park she illustrated for the Instagram account was Arches and its non-license-plate-worthy scenery. So I thought, ‘What could I do to put my spin on it and make it my own, stand out a little bit?’ One day I just happened to stumble upon a couple of bad reviews someone posted to Reddit, and immediately thought I could find this for every park.” ![]() Obviously, that’s been done a lot and executed really well by a lot of really awesome artists. “A natural idea that emerged was drawing all the parks. “At the time, I was working more in graphic design and I wanted a side project to keep me illustrating and hopefully break into the outdoor industry a bit,” Share says. Subpar Parks: America's Most Extraordinary National Parks and Their Least Impressed Visitorsīased on the wildly popular Instagram account, Subpar Parks features both the greatest hits and brand-new content, all celebrating the incredible beauty and variety of America’s national parks juxtaposed with the clueless and hilarious one-star reviews posted by visitors. The popular Instagram account has spawned a new book, Subpar Parks: America's Most Extraordinary National Parks and Their Least Impressed Visitors, out this month. The account, launched in 2019, currently has more than 100 posts of artistically drawn national park posters superimposed with real negative reviews she's gathered from Yelp, Google and TripAdvisor. She runs the Instagram account Subpar Parks, which pairs illustrations of national parks with the ridiculously unsavory reviews they’ve received online. It's bitter reviews like this one that illustrator Amber Share savors. ![]() Well, at least for one person, who left this scathing review: “Looks nothing like the license plate.” Of course, referring to the standard issue plate featuring Delicate Arch, a 46-foot-tall freestanding sandstone arch, and the state slogan, "Life elevated." While most can't compete with Abbey's eloquence, I'd venture to guess that the majority of the 1.5 million annual visitors to the red-rock paradise have something to say about the park's magnificence and beauty.Īnd it's not necessarily something so nice. ![]() ![]() Overall, parents often find children’s claims to remember previous lives more remarkable than do the children, for whom the apparent memories are simply part of their experience of life. In many cases, however, as children get older they do not even remember that they ever talked about a past life. Very rarely, the memories will persist into adolescence or adulthood, though with much less intensity than during the younger years. This is the age at which children become involved with school and also the age at which they lose their memories of early childhood, and the talk about a past life fades along with those memories. Some parents may be comforted to know that the vast majority of these children stop talking about a previous life by the time they are 5 – 7 years old. Hearing a child describe the experience of dying in a painful or difficult way can be hard, but both parent and child can know that the child is safe now in this life. Parents are sometimes more upset by the statements than their child is. (See Concerns about Hypnotic Regression for more details.) We do not recommend that children undergo past-life regression hypnosis. Parents should acknowledge and value what their children have told them while making clear that the past life is truly in the past. If children persist in saying they want their old family or old home, it might be helpful to explain that while they may have had another family in a previous life, their current family is the one they have for this life. In such a situation, having the statements recorded ahead of time would be critical in providing the best evidence that the child actually had experienced memories from a previous life.Īt the same time, parents should not become so focused on the statements that they and their children lose sight of the fact that the current life is what is most important now. This is particularly important in cases where the children give enough information so that identifying a deceased individual that they are describing might be possible. We encourage parents to write down any statements about a past life that their children make. We do think it is fine to ask general, open-ended questions such as, “Do you remember anything else?” and it is certainly fine to empathize with a child’s statements (“That must have been scary” when, for instance, a child describes a fatal accident). It would then be difficult or impossible to separate memories from fantasy. This could be upsetting to the child and, more importantly from our standpoint, could lead the child to make up answers to the questions. When a child talks about a past life, we suggest that parents avoid asking a lot of pointed questions. Some of the children show a lot of emotional intensity regarding these issues, and parents should be respectful in listening just as they are with other subjects that their children bring up. We recommend that parents be open to what their children are reporting. When children talk about a past life, parents are sometimes unsure how to respond. They can occur in families with a belief in reincarnation or in families where the idea of reincarnation had never been considered before the child began making the statements. These statements are generally made by children whose development appears to otherwise be just like that of their peers. ![]() We have talked with many families in which a child claimed to remember another set of parents, another home, or a previous death, and the children rarely show mental health problems. These suggestions to parents are intended as general guidance and should not be construed as medical or psychological counseling of any kind, nor as a substitute for counseling or other treatment.įirst, it is important to know that these statements do not, by themselves, indicate mental illness. While each case has individual differences, we offer some general guidance here that may be helpful, and we are happy to answer questions about particular situations from parents who contact us. Parents frequently ask us for advice on how to handle their children’s statements about past lives. ![]() (Please note, the following is intended to be used for informational purposes only, and is not intended to serve as a substitute for professional therapeutic or counseling services) UVA Child Development & Rehabilitation Center.Translational Health Research Institute of Virginia.Institute of Law, Psychiatry & Public Policy.Child Health Research Center (Pediatrics).Thaler Center for AIDS & Human Retrovirus Research ![]() Center for Immunity, Inflammation & Regenerative Medicine.Center for Behavioral Health & Technology.Molecular Physiology & Biological Physics.Microbiology, Immunology, & Cancer Biology (MIC). ![]() ![]() ![]() antihistamine nasal spray otc Executive vice-president & Chief Technology Officer. You can upload up to 20 images at once and you can feel free to mix and match file types. To begin, you’ll need to upload some images you’d like to compress. This system intelligently analyzes uploaded images and reduces them to the smallest possible file size without negatively affecting the overall quality. It supports three file types: PNG, JPG/JPEG, and GIF. Our tool uses lossy compression to shrink down image files. Once uploaded, you’ll see thumbnails for your PNGs in the queue. However, if you’re on a mobile device, you can also tap the UPLOAD FILES button and navigate to your PNGs that way. Compressing them could free up more internal storage, fixing this problem. The easiest way to do this is to simply drag and drop your images onto the Drop Your Files Here field. These images could be taking up a lot of hard drive space and preventing you from taking more photos. Likewise, you might have large images on your phone. Compressing this image would be very useful. Depending on your needs, this could be too big. A JPG from a professional DSLR camera, for example, could be dozens of megabytes. Why would you want to compress images?ĭepending on the source of an image, the file could be quite large. With lossy compression, how small you want the final file to be will depend on how much loss of quality you’re comfortable with. This results in a smaller file but with a reduced quality. Lossy compression is when the compressor removes excessive or unimportant bits from the original file. This results in a smaller file that has the exact same quality as the original. Lossless compression is when the compression tool removes empty, needless, or duplicated bits from the original file. There are two types of compression: lossless and lossy. Simply put, it means converting a large file into a smaller file. This avoids adding noise to areas which have high visual quality without dithering. In terms of digital files, compression is the act of encoding information using fewer bits than what’s found in the original file. When remapping, error diffusion is applied only to areas where several neighboring pixels quantize to the same value, and which are not edges. Pngquant works in premultiplied alpha color space to give less weight to transparent colors. To improve color further, histogram is adjusted in a process similar to gradient descent (Median Cut is repeated many times with more weight on poorly represented colors).įinally, colors are corrected using Voronoi iteration (K-means), which guarantees locally optimal palette. Histogram is built with addition of a basic perception model, which gives less weight to noisy areas of the image. Instead of splitting boxes with largest volume or number of colors, boxes are selected to minimize variance from their median value. Pngquant uses modified version of Median Cut quantization algorithm and additional techniques to mitigate deficiencies of Median Cut. PNGQuant Algorithmĭetails of how this algorithm works have been copied below for convenience but can be found towards the bottom of the webpage for the library at Specifically we use the pngquant quantisation library which creates efficient 8-bit PNG files with an alpha channel. It uses a technique called “ Color quantization”, which basically means reducing the number of colours used in an image. Compressed images are fully standards-compliant and are supported by all current web browsers and operating systems. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bought by the Royal Navy in June 1942 and converted into a submarine depot ship. The records of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders (UCS) were acquired for the Scottish nation in 1973 following the collapse of the consortium in 1971. John Brown (Upper Clyde Shipbuilders) Photographs This guide is concerned mainly with the John Brown (Upper Clyde Shipbuilders) photographic collection and other photographs of ships and shipbuilding in the ScotlandsPeople Image Library. In terms of photographic material, the principal collection held by NRS is that of the John Brown's shipyard, which became part of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders. The resulting historical records of shipbuilding are consequently voluminous and they are cared for by several Scottish local and university archives, as well as National Records of Scotland (NRS). Scotland had one of the world's largest and most successful shipbuilding industries until the late twentieth century. Unless you're planning on abrogating the treaty, you probably can't start upgrades that would be worth the time and production on your capital ships until the treaty is gone.John Brown (Upper Clyde Shipbuilders) photographs Yet another thing to consider is the naval treaty. If you're going to have a new hull soon though, why waste xp on an upgrade design, especially if it will keep production tied up after the new hull is available. If it's going to be a while before you have new hulls to design new classes on, refits may be more attractive. If all you need to add is a sonar to have a decent ASW escort then it's well worthwhile, but adding or swapping out 3-4 modules is likely to cost you excessive production time.Īnother thing to consider is how long until you'll have a new hull researched. I can't comment on Italy specifically since I haven't tried it with MtG, but the countries I've tried usually the DD's are deficient on sub detection, AA, and maybe have no depth charges even. Also, if you are spending xp to make an upgrade-only class, it better be for something you have a significant number to upgrade. ![]() You can look at the proposed cost of a refit and compare that to the cost of just producing the new class. ![]() ![]() ![]() They are Houdinis and can learn how to escape from cages so one must be sure that their cages are escape proof.
